Chelsea hold an interest in Wolves star Matheus Nunes. The Portugal international joined Wolves last summer from Sporting CP for a club-record £42.2million and they will likely demand more if they sanction a departure in 2023.

Mauricio Pochettino has already signed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this summer – not to mention the arrival of Enzo Fernandez in January too. With the Blues' midfield rebuild near completion and Liverpool out of the race, Manchester City are said to be leading the one-horse pursuit of Nunes.

So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up everything we know regarding Chelsea's interest in the 25-year-old.

According to The Athletic, Manchester City have reached a formal agreement with Wolves to sign Matheus Nunes. The report states that the Portuguese star will cost the Premier League champions €62million (£53.1m), with 10 per cent of a future sale profit going to Molineux.

The Athletic add that Nunes has been given permission to conduct a medical with City before a transfer is completed.

Man City bid

Manchester City are set to make a second bid for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes after an opening proposal of around £47 million was rejected, according to The Telegraph. Pep Guardiola is targeting the Portugal international for a late move before next week’s deadline but the treble winners’ first proposal was instantly turned down by Wolves.

It is understood that City are set to return with another offer but the first bid, submitted on Thursday evening, has fallen well short of Wolves’ valuation. Liverpool are also keen admirers of Nunes, but Wolves removed a clause enabling the Merseyside club to buy him in January this year.

Chelsea add Nunes to shortlist

Graham Potter is in desperate need of a new midfielder joining Chelsea in 2023, preferably in January, with a number of Premier League options on the Blues radar. The Telegraph are reporting that Matheus Nunes is now on that list of potential targets for Todd Boehly alongside Brighton star Moises Caicedo, Everton's Amadou Onana and West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

Liverpool stance

Jurgen Klopp is another Premier League manager needing to oversee a midfield rebuild and although Jude Bellingham is likely the clubs priority, a number of another names are on their list. One of those is Matheus Nunes who could be the perfect replacement for Jordan Henderson, however it is unlikely the Reds make a move this month with a summer enquiry far more likely, as per Sky Sports
