From a selfish perspective' - Gary Lineker makes Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool admission

Former Everton, Barcelona and Leicester City striker Gary Lineker has admitted he'd love to have played under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp - insisting he would've relished the German's full-throttle attacking approach.

The 62-year-old, who won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup with England, enjoyed an illustrious career in the old First Divison with boyhood club Leicester City before moving to Goodison Park in 1985.

After an incredible first season with the Blues, Lineker moved to Spanish giants Barcelona in 1986, where he further enhanced his reputation on the European and international stage as he fired a memorable hat-trick against Real Madrid. He later won the Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners' Cup during his time at the Nou Camp.

And speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the former England man insisted he would have relished the opportunity to play under Klopp if he was able to relive his career in the current day and age.

“I’d go first with Jurgen Klopp," said Lineker. "I think he’d be a great manager to play for. Dynamic football, create loads of chances and, from a selfish perspective, I think I would have liked that.”

Since being appointed as Liverpool boss in October 2015, Klopp has established himself as one of the finest counter-pressing managers of his era with his tactics, which are largely influenced by AC Milan's back-to-back European Cup manager Arrigo Sacchi.

As recently as Sunday was the German's full-throttle approach demonstrated as he masterminded his side's 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Newcastle United despite being down to 10 men.

Sent on as a 77th-minute substitute, Darwin Nunez fired a 12-minute brace to turn the game on its head and secure all three points for the Reds.

During his time at Anfield, Klopp has won every top-level trophy available.
